​Mr. John David Williford



Mr. John David Williford, 78, of the Plain View Community died Saturday morning at his residence. He was born in Sampson County on January 8, 1939 to the late Fletcher T. and Leta H. Williford. He was preceded in death by a son, twin grandsons and a sister.

John attended Campbell College before serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963. He was a member of the Palmyra Masonic Lodge #147, New Bern Shrine Temple and the Dunn Shrine Club. John enjoyed being a Chauffer for Holiday Limousine Service. He worked for Coats Distributors for twenty years and Family Medical for sixteen years.

John was a member of Lee’s Chapel Church O.F.W.B. where he was a former superintendant of Sunday school, Sunday school teacher and an usher.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Lee’s Chapel Church by Rev. Brad Williamson and Rev. Ricky Warren. Burial will follow with Masonic Honors in Lee’s Chapel/Williford Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Betty P. Williford of Dunn, two daughters, Johanna “Jody” Harrell and husband Ben of Fuquay, Rebecca “Becky” Arthurs and husband Mack of Dunn, a son, John D. Williford, Jr. and wife Debbie of Angier, four sisters; Alva Davis and husband Art of Wilmington, Virginia Chiarello and husband Frank of Wilmington, Linda Williams of Dunn, Doris Tyndall and husband James of Dunn, eight grandchildren; Johonna Harrell, Robert Furr, Elizabeth, Benjamin and Jennifer Arthurs, Tiffany, Fletcher, Jackson Williford, seven great grandchildren, Abby and Hannah Arthurs, Jacob McLeod, Ely Williams, Faith, Alexandra and Gregory Furr.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home.
