Mrs. Gladys McLamb Dawson, 97, died Monday May 15, 2017 at her home. She was born November 16, 1919 in Sampson County to the late Charlie William and Callie Hargrove McLamb. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius F. Dawson; brothers, Glenwood and C.W. McLamb; sister, Ruth McLamb Hardee; and son-in-law, James E. (Jimmy) Jackson.

Gladys was a textile worker and retired from Erwin Mills where she inspected cloth for many years. She was a member of Bethesda Friends Meeting and cherished the fellowship with friends from the church, her Sunday School Class, and the Woman’s Missionary Society. She spent countless hours working in her yard, and enjoyed needlework and word puzzles.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 17th, at 2:00 p.m., at Bethesda Friends Meeting with the Revs. Lee Lane, Randy Beasley, and Michael Thames officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and at other times at the home, 33 Core Road.

Mrs. Dawson is survived by two daughters, Patricia L. Core and husband John, and Carolyn L. Jackson, both of Dunn; grandchildren, Marshall E. Jackson and wife Deandra of Atlanta, GA, and Amanda J. Core of Raleigh and fiancé Rob Jackson of Dunn; sister-in-law Mary J. McLamb of Spivey’s Corner; and a special cousin, Ann Nichols of South Hill, VA.
