​Mr. Jesse Edward Parsons, Sr.



Mr. Jesse Edward Parsons, Sr., 91, of Dunn died Saturday evening at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. He was born in Sampson County on October 24, 1925 to the late Henry B. and Allie R. Parsons. He was preceded in death by his first wife of fifty years, Elaine R. Parsons, a brother, James Parsons, two sisters, Alma Stanley and Annie Mae Watkins.

Jesse served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from Erwin Mills in 1991 after 43 years of service. He also worked for Godwin Manufacturing as a shuttle driver for 20 years.

Jesse was a charter member of the Plain View Fire Dept. and the Plain View Fire Medics. He was a Scout Master for many years in the Plain View Community. He was a member of Lee’s Chapel Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the choir. He was a member of the Gospel Tone Quartet.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Lee’s Chapel Church by Rev. Brad Williamson. Burial will follow in Lee’s Chapel/Williford Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Annie A. Surles of Dunn, a son, Jay Parsons of Clinton, step children, Jeff Surles and Jackie Dennis both of Dunn, daughter-in-law, Debbie Parsons, two sisters; Margaret King of Clinton, Edna Smith of Raleigh, three grandchildren, Meagan Grady and husband H.D., Jeremy Parsons, Allison Parsons, two step grandchildren; Jason and Jeremy Dennis, three step great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Delanie and Leighton Dennis.
