Mr. Joseph Odell Hawley



Mr. Joseph Odell Hawley, 81, of Dunn, died Monday, April 10, 2017 at Cornerstone Nursing & Rehab in Dunn. Mr. Hawley was born October 6, 1935 in Sampson County, son of the late William Washington and Oma Thelma Williford Hawley. He was also preceded in death by a son, Dexter Wayne Hawley; brothers, William Henry, O.D., Calvin, Edward and Jalee Hawley; and sisters, Jessie Sutton and Mary Williford.

Mr. Hawley was a U.S. Navy veteran. He retired from Dixie Denning Gas in Benson and was a member of Glad Tidings Church in Dunn.

Joe was a devoted husband, father, and papa. The highlight of his younger days was coaching little league ball in Dunn and watching his kids and grandkids play ball.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tim Rice and Rev. Frank Hawley officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery with military honors.

Mr. Hawley is survived by his wife, Joyce Maynard Hawley; sons, Frank Hawley and wife Sherri of Winter Haven, Florida, Kirk Hawley and wife Lorrie, of Dunn, Terry Hawley and wife Pam of Dunn; daughter, Marsha Jeffries and husband Ronnie of Mt. Olive;, grandchildren, Rick, Shannon, Krystal and Lauren Moody, Kristin McGhee and husband Cody, Joy Shrek and husband John, Meagan Smith and husband Nathan, Tiffany Corr and husband Andrew, Kyle, Ashley and Kayley Hawley; seven great grandchildren; and sisters, Carolyn Hairr and Kitsy Birdsong, both of Dunn and Faye McKee, of Raleigh.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Terry and Pam Hawley 7379 Plain View Hwy., Dunn, NC.
